The LINKS Foundation was founded in 2016 exploiting and enhancing the experience gained from the Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (ISMB) and from the Istituto Superiore on Territorial Systems for Innovation (SiTI) in the first 2 decades of the new millennium in the field of research applied and technology transfer, adding a fundamental element such as the enhancement of the research result. As part of the knowledge chain, the Foundation intends to enhance the lever of applied research, contributing to the growth of the socio-economic system by relating the academic world, the public and private sectors, activating large-scale processes and projects with significant impacts on territory. The Foundation intends to establish a dialogue with the local, national and international business entrepreneurship, in order to share and enhance knowledge, experience and innovation. The Foundation is an ideal partner for both SMEs, which can enhance the ability to develop innovation and gain competitiveness using the experience and expertise of the foundation, both of the Large Enterprises that can, in partnership with it, develop new ideas and new technologies.

Posizione

Research Area: Business Model Innovation

The Business Model and Innovation area leverages a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds and skills. Specifically, the group consists of industrial, IT, cinema and materials engineers, as well as economists. Furthermore, 75% of the team holds a PhD, an experience that contributed to provide depth to domain-specific skills and to strengthen methodological approaches. During almost twenty years of activity, the research group has built an internationally recognized reputation in terms of strategic support to innovation, impact assessment of public policies, data exploitation through intelligent agents and design of user centered solutions.

The team supports public and private decision makers in the exploitation of information and telecommunications technologies as a strategic lever for sustainable development, using an interdisciplinary approach, oriented to the generation of value for private actors and for society. The research group carries out a strategic support and technological innovation activity addressed to companies, public bodies and the third sector.

The research activity carried out aims at promoting innovation in the process of data valorisation, with a dual focus on business models and technology. In particular, the investigation activity is aimed at clarifying how new business models can be connected with the introduction of emerging technologies, such as blockchain and artificial intelligence, for the generation of competitive advantage and impact on society.

Job offer description:

The LINKS foundation is looking for a candidate who is excited to do applied research on cutting-edge technologies for developing the next frontier of cognitive solutions for the creation of intelligent agents.

We believe intelligent agents will be transforming the way human beings think and act, since they will be bringing better evidence and help people in reasoning more effectively.
 

The candidate will have a significant influence in shaping the group’s overall research agenda by helping answering key research questions, contributing to develop our toolkits, test ideas, and apply the best practices that enable a successful porting of this research into innovation projects.
S/he will apply her/his skills in a dynamic team that aims to have a pivotal role in applying cutting-edge best practices in different industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Test and validation of cutting edge approaches for creating intelligent agents
  • Participate in the design, development, evaluation, deployment in a controlled setting and updating of data-driven models
  • Participate in project delivery and in meetings to support the team’s efforts
  • Develop cooperation and lead collaboration with our industrial partner

Basic Qualifications:

  • MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related technical discipline
  • Experience of research or innovative project development using natural language processing & recommender systems
  • Programming skills in commonly used programming languages for AI such as Python
  • Excellent depth and breadth of knowledge in machine (deep) learning and semantics
  • Knowledge of REST services
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Fluent in written/spoken English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment
  • Experience in working with large data sets

  • Ability to adapt to international, intercultural and multidisciplinary environments
  • Keen interest for the dissemination of research findings
