Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (ISMB) is a research and innovation centre operating in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) domain. Founded in 2000 by Compagnia di San Paolo and Politecnico di Torino, today ISMB relies on the technological and process competences of around 130 researchers working in close cooperation with companies, academia and public administration. ISMB operates according to the knowledge management model: this means that it plays an active role not only in devising innovative solutions, but also in their implementation and consequent developments. This approach represents a step forward with respect to technology transfer, and in this sense the evolutionary lines of European research are taken into account.
The MLW research area of ISMB is active in the fields of multimedia and time-critical/broadband wireless communications: the two areas are respectively addressed by the MAIN (multimedia adaptation and interaction) and BWA (broadband wireless access) research units of MLW. MLW-MAIN activities concern the development of multimedia tools in a wide sense, including: optimized encoders, automatic media processing and visual detection of events, visualization tools and multimedia applications (such as augmented reality). In these scopes we are looking for a candidate who applies and extends state of the art computer vision algorithms to solve challenging real-world problems; the applicant will implement end-to-end experimentation, from algorithm design to extensive testing both offline and live.
